Second Grade Teacher Mr. Oscar Rerucha and his University of Texas Interns Ms. Natalia Umana and Ms. Samantha Amador brought geography and the Austin environment alive to their students. Mr. Rerucha read a big book on geography noting landforms to his students. Ms. Umana related the book to the Austin area landforms. Students created their own 3-D layer of landforms to include plains, valleys, cliffs, hills, and volcanoes, all pertaining to Austin. Students wrote about each landform in either English or Spanish. Earlier in the semester Ms. Amador taught a social studies lesson on Amelia Earhart.

Thank you teachers for a job well done!

Travis Heights 2nd grade students displayed their presidential study along the 2nd grade hallway. Students wrote biographies of a self-selected president. Many chose to write about President Barack Obama. Some created time lines or wrote  interview questions. The 2nd grade teachers led their students in research, modeled and guided note taking to learn about our present and past presidents. Students used their notes and followed the writing process to publishing their final piece. Many students included artwork for their project. All work is on display in the 2nd grade hallway.

Great job, Second Grade Teachers!
